Uma nota sobre o desemprego na Região Metropolitana de Porto Alegre, no período recente

Resumo

O objetivo desta nota é tratar sucintamente das tendências do desemprego na Região Metropolitana de Porto Alegre, no período que inicia em 2011 e se estende até o primeiro semestre de 2016. São apresentadas evidências de que a fase de descenso do desemprego, de 2011 a 2014, foi sustentada, fundamentalmente, pelo processo de redução da taxa de participação na força de trabalho. Posteriormente, na conjuntura de recessão econômica, a inflexão na trajetória do desemprego foi causada pela combinação da queda da taxa de ocupação com o aumento da taxa de participação na força de trabalho, em 2015, e, no primeiro semestre de 2016, pela retração da taxa de ocupação. Ao desagregar-se a força de trabalho por características sociodemográficas, constatou-se redução do desemprego para todos os segmentos no período 2011-14. Durante a crise econômica, o desemprego aumentou comparativamente mais entre os homens, os adultos, os chefes de família, os negros e os indivíduos com ensino médio completo.

A note on unemployment in the Metropolitan Area of Porto Alegre in recent years

Abstract

The purpose of this note is to briefly outline the trends of unemployment in the Metropolitan Area of Porto Alegre, in the period between 2011 and the first half of 2016. Evidence is presented that the period of declining unemployment rates, between 2011 and 2014, was supported, primarily, by the process of reduction of the labor force participation rate. Later on, in the context of economic recession, the inflection in the unemployment trend was caused by the combination of the decline of the employment rate and the increase of the labor force participation rate in 2015 and by the reduction of the employment rate in the first half of 2016. By disaggregating the labor force by sociodemographic characteristics, it was found that unemployment decreased for all segments in the period between 2011 and 2014. During the economic crisis, unemployment increased more among men, adults, family heads, black people and individuals with a high school diploma.
