Abstract

ABSTRACT Some current studies point to a change in Brazilian exports, suggesting that there has been a process of commoditization of exports. In this scenario, intensive products in knowledge and specialization lose participation in external trade of the country. To contribute to this discussion it is interesting investigate the behavior of these industries that generate higher value added products, such as those producing machinery and equipment. In this group, it is worth investigating the segment of agricultural machinery and implements, as Brazil is presented as important player. Therefore, we analyzed the historical aspects, such as the export volume and the trend that emerges in the long run, and was made an assessment of export behavior using a set of indicators. One of the conclusions of the study indicated that there was a reduction of export specialization in this industry, ie, the segment of agricultural machinery and implements lose importance in the Brazilian exports goods. In addition, exports of this industry are concentrated to the markets of Latin America and within that very few countries of destination. With the exception of tractors segment, other segments analyzed concentrate their exports in a few target markets over the period analyzed. This situation signals the need to reflect on future business strategies of the industry. Key words Exports; agricultural machines and implements. Artigo recebido em 11 dez. 2012.
