Manufacturing and Growth in Brazil

ABSTRACT As Kaldor established, fast economic growth and rise of welfare are a result of manufacturing industry development. This point of view was announced by Smith in his way and, more precisely, by Marx before. This conception has been viewed as not prevailing in the new stage of international capitalism. Nevertheless, in the beginning of the XXI century supporters of post-industrial development face the reality of, on the one side, fast growth linked to industrial activity and exports and, on the other side, low growth were there is de-industrialization and trade deficit. Starting from this contrast, some indicators of Brazilian economy will be analyzed as to verify the sources of recent growth and the role of manufacturing in it. And last, which place Brazil can expect in the present reconfiguration of the world economy. Key words: Brazilian economy; Economic growth; manufacturing; Artigo recebido em out. 2012Downloads
