Abstract

ABSTRACT In the 2008-2011 period, the growing concentration of exports was kept in Rio Grande do Sul. The state exports continued a trend which was already observed earlier: being based on the agribusiness – products intensive in natural resources and labor, with low or medium low technology intensity and with little utilization of imported raw materials There has been also an increase in the representativeness of basic products to the detriment of manufactured goods. Consequently, the effects of the exchange rate valuation with fall in profitability were more intense than in the national level. The share of foreign sales of the Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil has declined over the years, but the dependence on the international market (exports / GDP) is still more relevant than to the country. Concerning the destination markets the U.S. and the European Union lost their share in the export while Asia has gained representation. So the state exports concentrated in fewer products, markets, and in large companies, with an increment of the internationalization of companies in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Key words Exports, Rio Grande do Sul, exports concentration. Artigo recebido em 20 abr. 2012
