ABSTRACT The present article intends to analyse the Rio Grande do Sul and Brazilian exports through a technology classification between 2007 and 2011. Such classification is capable of sheding light to a different analysis regarding the manufacturing sector, due to its ability to analyse the decline in the technological intensity of the manufacturing sector exports, as well as the loss of relative participation to the primary sector products. The results indicate that there are signs of decline in the share of high technology sectors in favor of low technology exports in the manufacturing sector. Also, the manufacturing sector in Brazil is losing relative participation as a whole to the primary sector. When Rio Grande do Sul is considered, the primary sector exports are growing, but the evidences aren't clear regarding the reduction of the technological intensity of exports, due to the high volatility of the exports from RS, when compared to the brazilian exports. Key words Exports; Rio Grande do Sul; Technology Intensity. Artigo recebido em 12 abr. 2012Downloads
