Tempo de permanência no emprego: tendências na RMPA no período 1993-2010

Abstract

The study is aimed at analysing the trends of the length of service in the labour market of the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The focus of the analysis is placed on the private sector. In addition to provide a broad overview, the research breaks down the data into broader types of occupations, economic sectors, personal characteristics of the labor force, income levels, and formal educational attainment. The source of the data is the Pesquisa Emprego e Desemprego da Região Metropolitana de Porto Alegre (PED-RMPA), a monthly employment and unemployment survey carried out in the Metropolitan Area of Porto Alegre. Evidence shows that the links between employers and employees are still fragile in Brazil in spite of an increase of the length of service during the last decades. This increase suggests that turnover rates may have declined throughout the period. Key words: labour market; length of service; employment relations. Artigo recebido em 13 out. 2011.
