O fenômeno aglomerativo no Rio Grande do Sul: panorama atual

Abstract

This paper presents an overview of the urban phenomena in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. On the first part, urban network is described in its demographic and economic characteristics and the role of the urban regions is analyzed. On the second part, the socio-occupational structure of the population and some socioeconomic indicators are analyzed. In this part the approach is directed to the reality of the metropolitan area of Porto Alegre and to the legal agglomerations, where population and economic activities are concentrated.
