Mercado de trabalho no RS, no período 1999-2005: Um contraste entre a RMPA e os municípios não metropolitanos

Abstract

This article presents an overview of the labor market performance in Rio Grande do Sul (RS), during the period 1999-2005, using an annual household survey (PNAD-IBGE). It compares the behavior of the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre (RMPA) with the behavior of the group of all other cities of Rio Grande do Sul. The principal results — increasing in the employment, especially by the growth in the number of registered workers, reduction in the informality level — show that the labor market condition in RS is getting better. Despite of it, the unemployment tax and the informality persist in a high level, yet.
