Agravamento da crise financeira do Estado do Rio GRande do Sul no período de 1979 a 1985 e suas conseqüências atuais

Abstract

This paper analyses the worsening of financial crisis of Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state of Brazil, from 1979 up to the 1985s. It argues that the indebtedness and the assignment of the public debt considerably increased and that the investments declined. It shows that during the 2000s the crisis has not reduced its strength even after the negotiation of the debt with the federal government in 1998. Due to the assignment of the debt the state’s net current revenue remained low, and the level of the investments further diminished.
