Evolução e perfil populacional da população residente nos aglomerados subnormais, na Região Metropolitana de Porto Alegre — 1991-00

Abstract

In this paper we analyze the professional and occupational profile of the population living in impoverished areas in the RMPA in the years 1991/2000. For the analysis of such evolution, we compared our findings with data obtained from the Demographic Census during the same period.The analysis focused on two main points: the first was concerned with the way people living in slums participate in the work force; the second tried to identify the social and demographic characteristics of such group.The findings suggest that although there has been some improvement in their profile, the patterns that perpetuate social and spatial segregation still persist.
