Abstract

The strategy of investing in emergent markets adopted by the international automotive industry occurs at the same time with the policy of economic opening and of foreign investment attraction implemented in the 1990s by the Brazilian automotive sector. In that process, the government role has been important not only on regulation and macroeconomic measures, but also on policies to develop the sector and to establish strategic policies. Also, Brazilian companies have adopted a strategy to focus on the production of smaller cars, becoming a world-wide reference in this type of production and leading the country to the tenth position in the rank of the world largest producers.
