Innovation, learning and cooperation in the agricultural machinery and implements local productive arrangement in Rio Grande do Sul

Abstract
This article analyzes the pattern of innovation, the learning processes and relations of cooperation in the arrangement of agricultural machinery and implements of Rio Grande do Sul based on field research conducted with the main companies of the productive sector and the agglomeration several individuals linked to various organizations belonging to the arrangement, such as research institutes, universities, cooperatives and support services. Empirical evidence showed that the local environment it is important for the development of the processes of learning in the arrangement of agricultural machinery and implements of Rio Grande do Sul, however, their greater or lesser importance stems from the peculiarities of companies (wheel tractors and combines, mechanical traction implements, implements of the lower complexity and parts and components). These features—about the size, the origin of capital, the technological complexity of products and direct sales—involve different mechanisms of learning, since sources of knowledge are articulated differently.
