O segmento de automação industrial no Brasil: constituição, desenvolvimento e mudança no processo de abertura

- During the eighties, was set up in Brazil an industrial segment producer of equipaments of industrial automation. The development of this industry took place under the official market reserve policy of informatics. Since 1990 started a process of opening up of the Brazilian economy and local firms of industrial automation were increasingly facing international competition, which grew further with the end of the market reserve policy in 1992. This paper analyses this experience with special concern to the structure and performance of this productive segment, as well as to the improvement of technological and production capabilities of local firms. The ma i n proposition of the paper is that the country should preserve and improve the segment of industrial automation, because this is likely to retain the domestic production of core microelectronics technical base activities.
