- The purpose of this article is to examine the conditions under which the diffusion of new ways of production take place in the industrial sectors of petrochemical products and leather shoes, by analysing some representative firms of these sectors estaWished in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. Special attention isgiven to the impact that the tendency to more flexible plants has upon the management of the work force and upon some of the predominant characteristics of the taylorist/fordist paradigm in both sectors.
