- Abstract
- The notion of economic growth is linked to the vision of technological and institutional change as a process, such as proposed by the old institutionalist tradition of Vebien, Commons and Mitchell. In this context, growth is viewed in a historical, processual and cumulative perspective. This approach is theoretically opposed to the traditional orthodoxy, which understands such a process as a position of steady state equilibrium. However, the institutionalist approach to economic growth is not object of consensus, inasmuch as the very concept of institution is controversial. This paper discusses some of these divergences, emphasizing that such approach has a theoretical content.
