- Abstract
- Abstract This article looks for measuring and characterizing the agribusiness of the Rio Grande do Sul economy, for the year of 1998. The used methodology and data are based on the matrix input-output available by the Economy and Statistics Foundation (FEE) of the Rio Grande do Sul. It was verified for the year of 1998 that the agribusiness answered, the basic price and market price, for 36,27% and 36,67% of the State PIB, respectively. In relative terms, it was verified that the indirect taxes that fall over the agroindustry (29,31%) are bigger than the state average (9,74%). It was verified that the gaúcho agribusiness employees 47,68% of the total state workers and that the average wage income is lesser than the remaining portion of the economy. Finally, it was verified that the agribusiness contributes significantly to obtain foreigner currency by exportation and that exists a great space for the implementation of substitution programs of importation in the state. Thus, it was concluded that the performance of the agribusiness is fundamental for the process of economic development of the state and therefore, consists in a foundation for the drawing of economic policies.
