- Abstract
- The general purpose of the present article is to demonstrate that the growing demand for food safety by the consumers abroad, intensified by the constants animal borne outbreaks at the international market, changed the configuration of the brazilian beef chain – previously restricted to the local sphere. For such, it was intended to explore and describe the subject, having as reference the modern world-system approach. Based on this theory is possible to conclude that these requirements are not a mechanism of commercial restriction; on the contrary, they finds themselves in the core of a historic and systemic process to prepare the internal market for supplying bovine meat to the center of the world’s capitalist economy. Key-words: world-economy; food safety; bovine meat JEL classification: F14; P16; Q18.
