- Abstract
- This article analyses the public health system in the Metropolitan COREDE of the Delta do Jacuí - COREDE MDJ. For this purpose, we used not only available information but also, primary data collected through a field research amongst the users and units of COREDE MDJ. Results show that health services´ supply is considerably concentrated. It is also deficient, when one considers internationally recommended standards. As for users´ profile, they are 45 years-old on average, predominantly women, a significant part present some chronicle disease, and the great majority seeks the services only in case of some manifested disease and do not engage into prevention. Most of the interviewees have an average income lower to 2 minimum wages and did not conclude basic formal education. Results also show that the users are predominantly more satisfied with services provided by hospitals than with those provided by health centers, and also more pleased with the health professionals than with the SUS (Brazilian public health system) structure. Keywords: income inequality, Gini index, quality in health services
