Abstract
This article aims to evaluate the effects of drought on the economy of Rio Grande do Sul based on a multisectoral approach through the input-output model. This is a relevant issue because the performance of gross domestic product of the regional economy is very dependent on primary sector, which in turn has shown large fluctuations in production. It is the hypothesis that these fluctuations are due to the scarcity of rainfall and the influence of agriculture on the domestic product is due to its strong capillary matrix production in the state. With the approach proposed here it is possible to identify the direct and indirect effects of changes in the value added of agriculture on production and employment for the whole economy, and the productive sector. Key words: Agribusiness; input-output model; Regional Economics. Classificação JEL: Q10, R11, R15. Artigo recebido em set. 2009 e aceito para publicação em dez. 2010.
