Abstract
This paper presents the results of a methodology developed to estimate an interregional input-output matrix of Rio Grande do Sul and Rest of Brazil, 2003. Our main contribution is the identification of regional linkages among economic sectors of Rio Grande do Sul and Rest of Brazil. In addition, the methodological approach used has allowed estimating regional macroeconomic variables consistent with the new methodological procedures used by IBGE in the System of National and Regional Accounts. The intra-regional results show that Rio Grande do Sul is more specialized in agribusiness sectors and its economic structure is very different than Rest of Brazil. The regional linkages point out that spillover effects from Rio Grande do Sul to Rest of Brazil are higher than the otherwise. However, regional spillovers of agribusiness sectors are relatively smaller than other ones sectors in Rio Grande do Sul, mainly in the metal-mechanic sectors. Key words: regional economy; input-output matrix; regional linkages. Artigo recebido em maio 2009.
