The schooling and salaries of the worker in the industry of Rio Grande do Sul: changes from 1996 to 2005

Abstract
The study analyses the changes that occurred, from 1996 to 2005, in the schooling and wages of the workers of twelve industrial sectors in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. It evaluates, also, the influence of the schooling upon the wage level. From 1996 to 2005 the wages of the State industrial workers decreased and their average level of schooling increased. There is a positive correlation coefficient between the levels of schooling and wages. The importance of the variable schooling in the explanation of the wage level increased in the period. The diversity between the industrial sectors is also an important factor in the determination of the wage differences among the workers.
