- Abstract
- Despite the evidences, economists of all kinds, from the left to the right-winged ones, from the free market advocates to the pro-regulation ones, almost all economists continue to bet on the economic development to promote the world’s wealth equalization and to spread its “goodness” for all countries. These ideas, which are systematically divulged through the economic development speeches, are taken into a critical perspective on the present paper. As one intent to argue, economic development project is, for its own nature, unreachable. This speech is, therefore, illusory, but it still important within the society to the extent that it gives useful tools to operate in the capitalist economy and that it justifies the current social order. Finally, the paper defend that the claim to forfeit illusory beliefs is the claim to forfeit a condition that requires illusions – and so that it is necessary to, once again, put into the agenda the debate over human emancipation.
