Abstract
The objective of this is to investigate the range of exported products from each State of the south region of Brazil, according to the classification of technological degree proposed by OECD in the period from 1996 to 2007 with quarterly data. The short and long term models for the functions of supply and demand by exports in each State are evaluated. The log-linear function was employed in all time series and the Errors of Correction Mechanism (ECM) on the short-term relations. In Rio Grande do Sul, there was an expressive growth of average-high technology goods, which practically doubled its exports. In Santa Catarina, the products of low technological degree were approximately 60% from the exporting range. In Paraná, the communication equipment stood out in its expressive growth of high-technology goods exports. On the short-term equations, there was an important relation between the exported values in other periods and current exports, ranging from one to four quarters for supply as well as for demand. For the long-term equations, a direct relation with the growth of the world trade was observed. For the long-term supply, the degree of open trade is statistically significant with positive elasticities in the three states for each technological factor. Key words: Supply and demand for exports; technological classification; South region of Brazil. JEL Classification: C32, C50, F10, F12.
