- Abstract
- This text rebuilds Raymundo Faoro’s analysis about the political conjuncture of the penultimate year of Sarney’s Government. Through his articles that were published weekly in the magazine IstoÉ Senhor, during the year of 1988, it was mapped the hindrances that were created daily by means of a leading political practice that denied, day after day, any commitment to democracy as well as to the State of right. Its purpose was to demonstrate that, for Faoro, even with the end of the dictatorship, it was not possible to foresee actions, on the part of the Executive, the Legislative and the Judiciary, that buried, effectively, the authoritarian State. On the contrary, in his opinion, the latter was perpetuating itself in the years subsequent to the military regime. The actions that were triggered in the penultimate year of Sarney’s Government, the year in which a constituent process was in progress, provided expressive elements to understand the failure of the Brazilian political transition that started in the 1970’s.
