Abstract: The article aims to describe and to analyze the case of the furniture local productive arrangement of Bento Gonçalves, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, with the purpose of identifying the obstacles that prevent taking full advantage of the static and dynamic benefits of the industrial cluster. The main conclusions are that the cluster counts with an insufficient number of local or regional providers of basic inputs, high logistical expenses in comparison with other national competitors, low bargaining power with providers and customers and poor advantage taken from the opportunities offered not only by supporting institutions but also regarding initiatives for joint action.
