Critical realism and regulation approach: the possibility of collaboration between Science and Philosophy

Abstract: This article’s purpose is the study of a possible compatibility between the heterodox research program of regulation approach and the philosophical proposal of critical realism. The conceptual framework of regulation approach is sketched through the methodological works of its main authors — Aglietta, Lipietz and Boyer. The proposal of critical realism is suggested as a provider of methodological grounds for heterodox research programs, which is oriented to the construction of a theoretic alternative to neoclassical tradition. A prolific collaboration between regulation approach and critical realism is possible, and it is precisely this way that we point out in the present article.
