- Abstract
- Economic research must be developed in distinct analytical levels. This distinction is viewed in the light of diverse contributions to what are proposed a comparative reading, from Marxist critics to Regulation Approach and to Braudel's historical inquiry. First, the problem of explanation and the place of individuals and social relations in the causality of economic phenomena are addressed. Second, the need to spread out analysis in different levels, from an abstract one to a concrete one is dealt as necessary to unveil the causality chain that produces concrete reality. Central to develop such an analysis are the organization and role of institutions, a path through the dialectics of agents and structures, of logic and history. Distinction and irreducibility of both micro and macro levels are viewed as inherent to the complexity of the phenomena that are attempted to understand. Finally, Braudel's contribution on the dissimilar analytical instances where to root a full comprehension of society is discussed.
