- Abstract
- This paper tests Kaldor´s Law to Rio Grande do Sul for the period 1980-00. Kaldor considers the industry as the engine of economic growth due to the presence of increasing returns to scale in this sector. The same is not true for other economic sectors. In this conception, the unequal development between regions is explained by diverse industrial growth between them. The empirical results are consistent with Kaldor´s Law. The validity of his propositions in the regional context in a developing economy shows the relevance of fomenting the industrial production in low income regions to promote their economic growth.
