Mutações do trabalho no Brasil - abordagens interpretativas

Abstract: In the Brazilian society the changes in work organization, following the transformations in the capitalist system, deepened during the nineties and were subject to different types of interpretation. The understanding of the emerging situations required a new theoretical framework. This paper aims at discussing the recent literature in this field and analyses the distinct approaches. We start critically focusing the theses about the end of work, then we turn to the studies that assess the quality of work and the spread of non-standard labour relations, and finally we discuss the studies that view the informal sector as a key variable for the understanding of the current trends at work. We conclude that the approaches that use the concepts of informality and precariousness are the most suitable for the analysis of the new forms of labour relations since they provide alternative insights for social research in this field.
