- Abstract
- Faoro, based on Max Weber, makes a distinction between the economically- -oriented and the politically-oriented capitalism. In the book Economia e Sociedade, Weber discusses Faoro’s questionings about the Brazilian capitalism. His main question was: Would this capitalism, oriented politically by the State, be a necessary step for the development of the no. economically-oriented capitalism, the one based on a logic which is rational and independent from the State power? Based on Weber, his answer is The development of this rational capitalism would have to fight obstinately to supplant the capitalism which is politically oriented by the State. But are there, in Brazil, companies which are willing to do so? What would the social-historical process have shown about this possibility along the nineteenth and twentieth centuries? A part of his analyses intends to answer these questions.
