- Abstract
- Schumacher was an economist who showed mistakes as well as incoherences of the traditional economic thought, which were proved by oil crises in the 1970s, when several problems generated by a real obsession about economic growth became so evident. He stressed that concepts should be revisited in the light of an economic theory that was able to focus its attention on development directed essentially to people. In this regard, his solutions were related to some central issues, such as decentralisation, treatment of natural resources, and adequacy of technology for the country development stage and the culture of nations. This article aims not only to bring back and show that Schumacher’s ideas are important and still modern, but also to think carefully about the necessity of transforming economics into a more humanised science.
