Abstract
The intense relative growth in the terciary sector in regards of the employment structure is a worldwide phenomenum. The analysis made in this article of the Brazilian case, between 1992 and 2001, shows that: 1) this growth was the counterpart of the reduction in the primary and secondary sectors, 2) that the segments in the terciary sector which take on the largest part of people dismissed from the primary and secondary sectors remain the same, and 3) that the already high number of people working in the informal market has increased — therefore, the occupational insertion has not led to inclusion of social rights in the workplace. The article also shows that in some sub-sectors of the terciary sector there has been a reduction in the unequality of the profits from the job due to a intense flattening of the top compensations. The spreading, thus, has not resulted from a relevant raise of people’s income of the people who make the lowest compensations.
