- Abstract
- The recent literature on regional development has been emphasizing the role of the agglomerative factors in location of the productive activities and the population.s life condition estimates. In this issue we have tried to discuss the influence of the industrial activities and its space concentration in the social development indicators. Particularly we tried to analyze, for the 853 municipal districts of Minas Gerais State, the correspondence level between the existence of important industrial agglomerates and the incidence of the best socioeconomic indicators. To do this we have used information of RAIS and of the Demographic Census of 2000, building a Concentration Index and a multivariate analysis of multiple correspondences, specifically, HOMALS (Homogeneity Analysis by Means of Least Squares).
