As mudanças na pauta exportadora gaúcha entre 1989 e 2008

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the behavior of exports in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul between 1989 and 2008. The goods were classified into four groups according to their main competitive factor: natural resources intensive products, labor intensive products, scale intensive products and differentiated technology intensive products or science-based products. First, it was verified the participation of these products in total exports of the State of Rio Grande do Sul in four selected periods (1989-1993, 1994-1998, 1999-2003 and 2004-2008). Later, the growth of their sales abroad was compared with the increase of world-wide exports, to determine which products gained and which ones lost market share in international markets.
