Mercado regional de escravos: padrões de preços em Porto Alegre e Sabará, no século XIX - elementos de nossa formação econômica e social

Abstract

The article presents some studies about slaves'prices, in two Brazilian regions, from notarial documents made in 19" Century: Sabará, in Minas Gerais Province, and Porto Alegre, capital of Rio Grande do Sul Province. Both regions were characterized by non-exported productions of commodities using little slaves' chattels. Some statistical tests are made to verify the existence of a slaves' regional market unifying them and to comprehend the economic regional dynamic by the use of demographic data.
