Resumen

The course of the Union Movement of Rio Grande do Sul in the last 15 years is analyzes from a theoretical approuch that ascribes a central role to unions in economic and social developpment. The article presents a critical balance of questions related to organization and action of workers associative movement and surveys the process of updating of unions' pratice.
