Evolução da concentração industrial no Brasil: 1949-80

Resumen

This paper studies the evolution of industrial concentration in Brazil from 1949 to 1980, based upon the industrial census of IBGE. The study reaches conflicting results when concentration is analysed in terms of employment or production. It is suggested as the most plausible hypothesis to explain this divergent behavior a process of capital intensification, that would have had different impacts over the inequality of size of the industrial establishments, reducing it in the first case (employment) and increasing it in the second (production).
