Desenvolvimento econômico e estratégias de redução da pobreza e das desigualdades no Brasil

Abstract

According to the academic mainstream the Brazilian persistent poverty and the high income concentration are consequences of an unequal assets distribution (mainly human capital) and distortioned social policies. After a brief review of this line of thought a macro structuralist approach is developed pointing out the influence of the economic growth, sectoral unbalances, minimum wages and institutional aspects on poverty and income distribution. In order to achieve a less unequal society the two approaches stress different social policies.
