Public employment in Germany since the unification of 1871 until the end of the 20th century

Abstract

Abstract The aim of this article is to discuss the trajectory of public employment in Germany since the constitution of its National State (in 1871) until the end of the 20th century. The evolution of German public employment will be analyzed according to the number of public employees, its ratio to total employment, and also the alteration of its profile according to occupational status, activities and sphere of government (federal, regional and local).
