Abstract

ABSTRACT This article aims to characterize Rio Grande do Sul arrangement of gems and jewelry, through his actors’ presentation and through interaction and linkage forms there established. For this, empirical evidence from research field, as well information from secondary sources will be used. This local productive arrangement (LPA) was chosen as object of study because it is one of the top five sector clusters in the country, involving activities from mining to production and marketing of final product – rough stones to jewelry. From the perceived dynamics in each of the productive areas, we realized the difficulty in regarding it as a single production arrangement: not due the regions geographic distance, but to the lack of integration or incipient interaction between the regions and their several segments of the supply chain. Key words: Local Productive Arrangement; gems and jewelry; Rio Grande do Sul. Classificação JEL: R11, L72. Artigo recebido em out. 2010 e aceito para publicação em jun. 2012.
