The labor market in the medium cities of the southem region of Brazil: applying the Sabóia index

This article analyzed the urban labor market in South Brazil, based on a methodology proposed by Saboia. The study focused the data of the 36 intermediate cities of South Brazil, and also the three state capitals of the region, besides São Paulo, in order to compare the quality of the labor market. The indexes of groups of intermediate cities joined by State were also compared. The results demonstrate that the capitals stands out in the income index, but de unemployment and formality indexes do not show great differences. The comparison of the cities joined by State shows that the group of cities of Santa Catarina State presented the best index, followed, in second position, by Rio Grande do Sul State. The third and last position belonged to Paraná State.Downloads
