Negociações coletivas, indexação oficial e inflação: uma análise dos salários negociados na indústria do Rio Grande do Sul - 1978-95

Abstract

From the late 1970s on, the Brazilian system of industrial relations has undergone numerous changes that caused the system to deviate from the state corporatist model which had prevailed for more than four decades. The strengthening of collective bargaining was among these changes. In this article, I examine the outcomes of collective bargaining on pay by looking at clauses on both cost-of-living adjustment and minimum wages. The evidence was gathered from collective agreements related to manufacturing in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The analysis covers the period from 1978 to 1995.
