Abstract

This paper is based on a research that aimed at understanding the reasons underlying the expansion of subcontracting and outworking in Companhia Aços Especiais Itabira — ACESITA S/A. Such apparently unprecedented fact represents a global phenomenon brought about by the general crisis of capitalism in the developed countries since the 70's. The reasons for the use of subcontracted labor as an instrument of change as well as its effects on labor itself comprise the cornerstone of this paper.
