Abstract

This paper discusses the relation between economic development, technical evolution and the spatial dimension of capitalism. Firstly, it focuses the determinations of the capitalist economy transformations along History emphasising the role of technology in supporting economic development. Secondly, the relation of the economy and the space are dealt with, mainly the implication for the spatial dimensions of social life of the market expansion process, for there is a relation linking the expansion of markets and the territorial dynamics of capitalist development. At least, the third part will join these two axes, the space and the technology, to sketch an interpretation of contemporary economic changes around the world.
