Abstract

This work has as central task to present problems associated with the choice of monetary policies strategic, particularly, the choice of exchange rate regimes to compose these strategies. We have tried to show the characteristics of each one of these monetary-exchange rate regimes, as well as its adoption in the several developed and developing economies, including the possibilities to link domestic currencies to a foreign currency, or to a basket of currencies of the area of economic cooperation, or even the monetary independence for the exchange rate flotation. Our contribution is in the fact that we have showed, with that, that the choice of more flexible exchange rate regimes imposes some additional type of monetary strategy, or based on objective monetary goals, eigher based on inflation objectives (inflation targeting). We have showed, still, that any one of these choices has been implicating in the elaboration of some type of macroeconomic program backed by IMF, just only for economies that faced some recent exchange rate crisis.
