Distribuição de renda no Rio Grande do Sul: um comparativo entre o rural e o urbano

Abstract

This paper characterizes unequalities in income distribution in the state of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), making comparisons between the rural and urban environments. Considering that income concentration can be one factor for poverty situations, the paper contributes for this understanding, pointed out as a multidimensional phenomenon. The main results indicate that the average income earnedin rural areas is lowerthan the average income in urban areas, although unequality in income distribution is very deep in both areas. These results have not changed significantly in the last two decades.
