Produção e abastecimento alimentar na amazônia: evolução recente e perspectivas para o ano 2000

Abstract

This article synthesizes the main results of a recent research on the existing situation and the future perspectives of the supplying conditions of the main agriculture food products demanded by the Amazon region. By the same token, after analysing the regional relative participation in the supply of agriculture food prodution vis-à-vis regional consumption, the role of the principal instruments of agriculture fomentation, and the several exogenous and endogenous constraints to potential agriculture regional growth, we get the main conclusion that the Amazon region is - and will continue to be - an essencialy food import region.
